Bolope, next to the Mali border, was a center for Senufo carver in the beginning the 20th century. Later on in the 1950ies many carvers moved southwards to Boundiali and Ouézomon. The family name Coulibaly is till today a very popular name for Koulés in this area north of Ivory Coast.
Kadohognon, who died about 1953, was a Koulé who worked in a very symmetric and balanced style. The shape of his decoration elements are geometric and precise. The shown Kpelié mask features the "wing" as top center, which is typical for the Bolope-style and for a time of creation between 1920 and 1930. Also the shape of the face is very pointy towards the chin, which is a very eloberated feature for Kpelié masks from that time.
